FishBowl Solution’s CollabPoint – Collaboration for Oracle Stellent UCM

June 3, 2009

Here is my previous post on ECM and Collaboration

Easy knowledge sharing

A single enterprise-wide repository
Intuitive and easy-to-use interface
Wider view of assets within the system
Team collaboration across different locations
Reduced IT needs and budgets
Advanced Search abilities

Fishbowl Solutions, a partner of Oracle since 1999 had come up with a Collaboration platform called CollabPoint for Oracle Stellent UCM implementation. If you have invested on Oracle Stellent UCM and you are envied by the collaboration abilities of SharePoint, then these guys say they have a collaboration solution.

Fishbowl_CollabPoint_2009
The name could have been chosen better. It kind of sounds like SharePoint. I know they have taken the route of SharePoint, but it does not mean they have to end with Point. That does not sound originality. Anyway, I haven’t really looked at the functionalities, but it is said that the functionalities are similar to that of SharePoint.

Some of the notable items are Easy knowledge sharing, A single enterprise-wide repository, Intuitive and easy-to-use interface, Wider view of assets within the system, Team collaboration across different locations, Reduced IT needs and budgets and Advanced Search abilities.

Whatever it is – it is difficult to compete with SharePoint’s look and feel. Only if CollabPoint can do a lot than SharePoint, then it makes sense for people to adopt for it. Oh, yeah – another reason for adoption or trying this product would be – that if you have already invested in Oracle Stellent UCM.

Well, Even if you have invested in UCM, there is always ways to integrate with SharePoint as well for Collaboration.

Oracle Stellent in demand these days

June 3, 2009

I was searching into job portals, for the consultants needed for Oracle Stellent – for a reason. I am seeing a lot of consultants needed for Oracle Stellent.

Stellent was not in a forefront before Oracle bought it, to this extent. However, after Oracle bought it, there is an increasing amount of ECM implementations using Oracle  Stellent. But there is not much consultants available for the demand that it has on the market.

I even double checked with a Recruiter and she confirms that. So, how do you fill up that gap of demand and supply? Yes, there are lot of consultants out there who are specialized in ECM using products like EMC Documentum, OpenText etc., These ECM consultants learn and quickly catch up Oracle Stellent implementation demand.

This is what happens in any market, when there is a demand for consultants of a particular vendor in the market. The consultants of a particular vendor catch up and get shared to other product vendors. This helps for the consultants also, because they get exposed to other vendor products and improves their skillsets.

Oracle Stellent Installation Experience

May 24, 2009

We have discussed few of the Oracle Stellent installation issues and my experiences in one of the previous posts about Oracle Stellent. Now, I just wanted to update that I am becoming pro in installation of Oracle Stellent!:)

I just helped somebody, in installing Oracle Stellent Content Server and Web Content Management component very successfully. Couple of observations while installing…

1) Make sure you have all the components needed installed in the machine you install Content Server. Say for my example – I did not have Internet Information Services (IIS) in the machine.

2) Make sure you restart the Content Server, every time you do something with the components.

3) Do not leave out your heart seeing any error. Go to http://www.yahoogroups.com/group/intradoc_users

Stellent – “Site Studio component is from an older version of the product” error?

May 23, 2009

“Site Studio component is from an older version of the product”.

When I tried to connect to Content Server from SiteStudio, I keep getting the above error, even though I am able to login.

One part is – we have to make sure you use the same version of Content Server and that of Site Studio.
At the same time -

I suggest you to have to firstly install the Content Server followed by SiteStudio designer.
Then, install the SiteStudio component in CS as the last step.

Oracle Stellent Support

May 23, 2009

If you are not a partner of Oracle for Stellent and you are doing services around this product, it is kind of tough to fix stuff.

There is not much online resources for Oracle Stellent.

(1) forums.oracle.com – Enterprise Content Management category.
(2) http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/intradoc_users
(3) club-oracle.com is another option.

Apart from the above, I could not find much help technically anywhere else for Oracle Stellent related issues. If you know of any, please let me know.

On the other hand, if you are a partner or customer of Oracle, of course you will get Support:)!!

Trying out Oracle Stellent

May 23, 2009

I have been trying to install Oracle Stellent, but having a hard time.

I already have Oracle installed in a server in my network. I installed Oracle Stellent Content Server. After installation, when I try to open Content Server from the Start –> Programs, I keep on getting the same error whatever I did.

The error is – Caused by: java.sql.SQLException: ORA-43853: SECUREFILE lobs cannot be used in non-ASSM tablespace “SYSTEM”

I even created ASSM tablespaces and created the tables on it, it did not help at all.

OK, now – How do I move on? I decided I will try everything in my laptop.

I was about to install Oracle Database – which is usually huge. I noticed one more version in Oracle Database called Oracle Express Edition.  Though there were some hickups related to TNS listeners etc.,, I was able to get over it. Started all the Oracle XE Services. Now, Oracle was set.

I installed Content Server first and then installed Web Content Management Components like Site Studio.

When I try to open SiteStudio and connecting using Connection Manager – the error I got was “Site Studio component is from an older version of the product”. I am not able to get over it yet. Once I do, I will update it here in the blog.

Moreover, one more problem I had – I did not know the default user name and password concept. I was thinking I had given lot of user name and passwords while installing content server and I tried all of them. None of them worked in all the interfaces. At last I figured out from a forum. that there is a default username and password – it is sysadmin and idc. God Bless these guys!

How to install Site Studio and other components in Oracle Stellent Content Server? Here is the solution.

Also – one more interesting thing I noticed about installation.
Oracle Stellent Content Server installation does not have a GUI based installer, instead only command line based installer. On other hand – all other UI’s like Site Studio has GUI based installers.

Overall, I can compare Oracle Stellent UCM with Documentum – in terms of features and how it is setup and created! This thought came up to me – may be because both are built on Java!
