Somehow, I feel Joomla! is a very simple and easy to use Content Management system for managing website(s).
I went through a PDF document, which explained all the Joomla! features. – click here for the Joomla UserGuide. I am not the owner of this document, but I found this document somewhere in the internet.
Anyway – I used XAMPP and I was able to use Joomla and host sites – use different functionalities like Articles, Menus, Sections, Categories, Modules, Components, Banners, News, Polls etc.,
There was a recent news that Joomla! will be able to manage multiple sites, given with only one instance of Joomla!
I hit up on this post, which talks about Managing Multiple Websites with one instance of Joomla.
We deal with many enterprise content management tools, but it is good to have a feel of the small and simple content management systems like Joomla!

Recently I was going through the history of some of the Simple Web Content Management Systems. I felt like I was reading some ancient Indian political history.
Mambo CMS was one of the first few Open Source Content Management Systems. Due to various political reasons and split of open source developers – there born MiaCMS!
We felt that the policies, processes, and priorities of the official Mambo Foundation were having a negative impact on the code and the community.
They felt that the policies, processes, and priorities of the official Mambo Foundation were having a negative impact on the code and the community. Hence formed Joomla!
Interesting part is all of them exist today in the market and compete each other with similar base, but close features.
I heard that Mambo had similar code base, but recently rewrote lot of stuff.

I worked on (MOSS 2007) Sharepoint today to get the feel of the features.
It has nice look and feel, as it is always MS. I have worked on a product in past, which is a CRM product – i.e., Microsoft Dynamics CRM. This also had similar look and feel.
I can kind of conclude it has Perfect Collaboration platform, Simple Document Management and at last straightforward simple WCM features which reminds me of Joomla’s or Drupal’s.
While installation of Sharepoint and usage of the product is probably straightforward, I will have to try integrating with Alfresco or any other good ECM solution like Documentum, Open Text or Interwoven and see. That will be a challenge and most of the customers/prospects might choose a combo solution with Sharepoint + an ECM.

I recently installed XAMPP in my laptop and installed Joomla and Drupal to try out my Blog content. It has been a long time dream to work on Joomla and Drupal. I have played to my heart’s fullest extent.
XAMPP is provided by Apache Friends and it is a great package of Apache, MySQL and PHP. It is a very useful package for trying out these PHP applications.
We will compare Drupal and Joomla soon and come out with results like what is best for what purpose or project etc.,
