I tried to download Alfresco 3.1 for trying out something for my customer. I went to the following URL – www.alfresco.com/products/ecm/enttrial/ and I entered my details to download and I downloaded also.
When I look at what was downloaded it was Alfresco 3.2, instead of what I asked for. I am guessing Alfresco 3.2 is a much stable version than Alfresco 3.1. But I really want to install Alfresco 3.1 and upgrade it to Alfresco 3.2, because that is the requirement.
So, now I cannot try the above anyway, since I don;t have Alfresco 3.1. Is this usually done in other software also? Since the user is requesting for a trial version, the product vendor can give a stabler version than what the user asked for?
Let me know if there is some other reason!

Today, there are companies who has not even adopted to a content management solution for their organization efficiencies. That will be the first thing an organization would have to do to proceed in this track.
At any case, for the companies which are ahead of the race, the future trends on Content Management is applicable.
What is coming in Content Management space?
It is not just going to be just content management or web content management or digital asset management for an organization, instead we can expect an integrated solution for the whole approach.
This can be achieved in an incremental fashion also, but here are the items to be adopted into the integrated platform or solution or product.
1) Web Content Management
2) Integrated Search
3) Integrated Analytics
4) Social Component – Collaboration
5) CRM?
6) Digital Assets Management
All-in-one solutions will serve better and that is what I am guessing we will go towards. It would be an integrated Web Platform or Unified Web Platform, instead of just one small component implementation.

Some Web sites load up faster than others. Everyone loves a nimble Web site – even Google. The company has suggested that it may start including page speed as a factor within its search rankings this year.
In addition to making sure the Content is appropriate to the search user and Title tag etc., set right and considering much more parameters to tweak for SEO to work, speed is going to considered by Search Engines.
Not to forget Bing is considering domain age as a factor, after its launch.
Anyway speed factor is not yet confirmed, but cross your fingers – this news might come out soon.

There is no dashboard or a support portal existing today to look at what all the issues are there via Google Enterprise Support for a Google Search Appliance.
I am not sure what is the reason there is no portal for me to look at what is the status of my issue and how many issues etc., I will have to work only with the email responses from Google Support.
If I have to submit a ticket, I will have to fill in a “Contact Us” form to fill in my issue. Thank God, there is a phone number to call in for Production issues and a ticket number is issued in an email. Atleast we know there is a ticket number for the issue.
Apart from that – Google Enterprise Support had been responsive and very good at answering my questions and addressing my issues with the appliance. I am just suggesting to have a support portal, visible to customers so that we know what is the status of issues existing.
Hopefully that is in their roadmap! Please take it as a constructive suggestion!!

Have you noticed Google.com search results with text like – “Results 1 – 10 of about 11,300,000 for ecm. (0.17 seconds) “. It means it has got more than 11 million result items for the search key word ‘ecm’.
Well, if you go and change the search parameters to show results after 1000 records, then there would be a error message stating – “Sorry, Google does not serve more than 1000 results for any query. (You asked for results starting from 1000.)”. Well, then why do they show that there are 11 million records retrieved? When those records cannot be seen, why do they have to show that these many are retrieved? If it is not useful, I don’t need it as a user.
However, I did the same test with Bing.com, Bing also says – “1-10 of 4,380,000 results”. However, when I tweak the search URL with parameters to show the results after 1000 records, it says this – “991-1,000 of 1,000 results” and whatever I change the starting record to (say 100000), then also they stop the user with only 991 to 1000 results one. Bing has fixed the issue to an extent, than that of Google.
Having said that – in both cases – why do they want to show only 1000 records and not allow to go beyond that? Or why can’t they avoid that million number, if that is not being exposed to the search user?
Good questions and good catch haan?:)

I have been always looking at SEO for Google, because Google is considered the top No.1 Search Engine.
Given the fact that Bing is available now, competing with Yahoo for the second position. Guruji.com is an indian search engine not yet popular globally, but in India it is. This article does not talk about other search engines like Baidu.com etc.,
Anyway, SEO techniques are usually standard and common among all search engines, except for few differences. Say for example – Bing.com considers the age of the domain and makes it high ranking, compared to that of the young domain names. How is that?
Recently Google.com released a news that there are much more important parameters than Page Rank and they recommend not to consider Page Rank as the mantra parameter. This is definitely shocking among the webmaster community, because so far we have been growing up with Page Rank only, when we think about a page!
There is no defined SEO technique for Guruji.com yet, but looks like they are considering to release it. However, still if we follow standard SEO techniques, it should be possible.
SEO is a niche segment and there is billions of dollars spent for the link to come to the first page of the search results.

Some of the SEO techniques I have implemented over the past 5 years and I have got results.
1) I have filled in with proper and valid details in Title, Keywords, Description, H1, H2 tags.
2) Made sure content is targeted and the content will be liked and/or attracting for the search users.
3) Title tag to be unique for every page.
4) Title tag will have keywords, which my targeted user will be searching for.
5) Organized content and large content and targeted content.
6) Have a blog for it – so that there is continuous updates almost on a daily basis.
I have implemented this first hand for a particular city and I have top links when anybody searches for keywords with the particular city I am talking about.

Implementation of Content Management System and user adoption by all the users in the organization is a herculean task. Directors and decision makers at that level are apprehensive about the change management, to bring in a new content management system and have everyone use it and change the way they have been working so far.
Many people still use CDs, store content and assets in their local desktops and email stuff to share their content and assets. These are some of the hazardous way of using the assets. In order to change these people and their way of working, it is very difficult and in large organizations it is very tough to implement across the board. I suggest to go with one by one department and implement change management.
However, there was a question raised recently – Can I just live with a Search Component, instead of implementing Content Management System etc., Say for example – implement Google Search Appliance and point to all the URLs in the organization and also to network directories or Desktops for all the files that is lying around.
I would strongly not agree to this solution, but to go with a Content Management System and organize all the assets incl. DAM etc., and then integrate a Search Component. You cannot replace a content management with a Search Component.
This is like searching in a pile all the time, while you know you can organize and do an optimized search everytime.

Somehow, I feel Joomla! is a very simple and easy to use Content Management system for managing website(s).
I went through a PDF document, which explained all the Joomla! features. – click here for the Joomla UserGuide. I am not the owner of this document, but I found this document somewhere in the internet.
Anyway – I used XAMPP and I was able to use Joomla and host sites – use different functionalities like Articles, Menus, Sections, Categories, Modules, Components, Banners, News, Polls etc.,
There was a recent news that Joomla! will be able to manage multiple sites, given with only one instance of Joomla!
I hit up on this post, which talks about Managing Multiple Websites with one instance of Joomla.
We deal with many enterprise content management tools, but it is good to have a feel of the small and simple content management systems like Joomla!
